Adventures at a Wedding! (Sermon Jan. 17, 2016)

Hello Friends!

This week’s story is unique to John and it is the one where Jesus turns water into wine.  This is Jesus’ first sign in John (remember John doesn’t have miracles, he has signs).  Why wine?  Why a wedding?  Take a listen and find out:

Adventures with the Magnificat! (Sermon, Dec. 20, 2015)

Hello Friends!

We have a bit of a treat this week, we had a guest preacher at church, Ms. Anjelica Whitehorne!  For various reasons, I had a swamped week, so Anjelica offered to preach, and the text happened to be one of her all time favorites, Mary’s Magnificat from Luke (1:39-55).  She did a great job, take a listen as we learn about Mary:

Anjelica’s Sermon, Luke 1:39-55, Advent 4, Year C, Dec. 20, 2015

Next week, you will have more from me, until then, Merry Christmas!

Adventures with the 2nd Advent of Christ! (Sermon, Nov. 29, 2015)

Hello Friends,

Happy New Church Year, and blessed Advent.  This time of year, we can get bogged down in the rush towards Christmas, but don’t!  Advent is a 4 week period when we are supposed to reflectively and prayerfully wait for Jesus’ birth, or his 1st Advent.  The reading today is a prediction of the end of the world and Jesus’ return (i.e. the 2nd Advent).  So why do we read this?  Well, we live in the that in-between time and these texts give us clues about how to live while we wait.  Take a listen:

Luke 21:25-36, Advent 1, Year C, November 29, 2015

No sermon next week, the bishop is coming for his visitation and he gets to preach!

Adventures with the Little Apocalypse! (Sermon, Nov. 15, 2015)

Hello Friends,

This week in Mark, we hear Mark’s “little apocalypse” where Jesus starts to talk about the end times.  Many people take these statements from Jesus as a way to try and figure out when the world will end, but as we will explore, these so called “predictions” are not actually very helpful.  So what do we do?  Check it out:

Sermon, Mark 13:1-8, Proper 28, Year B, Nov. 15, 2015

Adventures with Scribes and Widows! (Sermon, Nov. 8, 2015)

Hello Friends,

Sorry for the late post, I was out of town for a little mini vacation and just got back.  This past Sunday’s story is a very familiar one, usually called “The Widow’s Mite.”  The widow gives her last 2 coins to the Temple.  Traditionally this is held up as a great example of Stewardship, but I’m not so sure….

Mark 12:38-44, Proper 27, Year B, November 8, 2015

Tomorrow begins our Diocesan Convention, and Fr. Kenny and I will be in attendance once again, making new friends and hoping taking a lot of pictures!
