Adventures with Desperation! (Sermon, July 1, 2018)

Hello Friends!

Wow, July has arrived in a strong manner with this terrible heat wave we are having.  I hope that you all are staying cool and hydrated.  Our church has A/C, so come on down, Sundays 8am and 10am.

Today’s tale features 2 very famous healing stories, but the healing isn’t the focus of the story.  There are so many different approaches to this excerpt, it is hard to narrow things down.  As my preaching teacher, the late, beloved Mo. Mittes, used to tell us, you have to choose 1 or 2 points to make, you can’t cover all the theology you have learned in 1 sermon.  She was a very wise woman.

Anyway, what does it mean to be healed?  To be made well?  To be so desperate that you will do ANYTHING for help?  Take a listen:

Text: Mark 5:21-43

Sermon, Proper 8, Year B, July 1, 2018

You may have heard that the General Convention of the Episcopal Church starts this week.  This is the once every three years meeting of representatives from all around the globe getting together for fellowship and to decide on policies, etc.  If you are interested, you can follow the action here.

Thanks for stopping by!

Rev. Lauren
