Adventures at our new home!

Hello Friends!

As you may have read in my last post, I have changed churches and am now the Rector at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in North Billerica, MA.  Moving states was a big change and stressful, as you can imagine.  But Fr. Kenny and I are settling in nicely.

Old friends and new have joined Kenny on his shelf.

I found the little moose in my new desk.  It is from the Barbara C. Harris Camp in NH (that is our Diocesan summer camp).  Then Fr. Kenny and I explored the church and grounds:

I am sure we will find a lot of fun things around the church, so keep checking back for more.  Also, here in Massachusetts, they don’t call priests Mother and Father (generally), here at St. Anne’s it is Reverend, so Kenny and I have to get used to that change and many more.  We are looking forward towards a bright future here!

Thanks for stopping by,

the Rev. Lauren

Adventures with the 70 (or 72)! (Sermon July 3, 2016)

Hello Friends!

I has been a while, I know, but Fr. Kenny and I have moved states and are now in North Billerica, MA at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church.  It has been an exciting a busy time as we packed up all of our belongings (I have a bit more than Kenny) and moved, but we are finally back at work.  My first Sunday as Rector was July 3rd, and the reading was a great one; the sending out of the 70 (or 72) followers by Jesus.  It is a great story that commissions us as well, take a listen:

Text: Luke 10:1-11,16-20, Sermon, Proper 9, Year C, July 3, 2016

Thanks for stopping by!  I’ll be posting photos of our new digs soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Adventures at Nain! (Sermon, June 5, 2016)

Hello Friends!

This week’s story comes from Luke 7:11-17, the story of Jesus raising the widow of Nain’s son from the dead.  This is a great story of healing, but healing of whom?  (Spoiler alert: it is the widow, not the son).

Also, this was my last Sunday in Long Island as Fr. Kenny and I are moving away to Massachusetts.  We won’t start our new position until  July 3rd, so there may be a break in posts.  Hopefully I will be able to post about our adventures in moving as well.

For now, take a listen if you please:

Adventures with the Centurion! (Sermon, May 29, 2016)

Hello Friends!

This week’s story hails from Luke and involves Jesus marveling at the great faith of a Roman Centurion who wishes Jesus to heal his slave.  How did this man get such a great faith?  Well, take a listen!

NOTE: I made an error in my sermon (I know, right?).  I say that next week’s story is the great commissioning of the disciples, I am wrong!  That story is July 5th, I apologize for the error.)

Adventures with the Trinity! (Sermon, May 22, 2016)

Dear Friends,

This past Sunday was Trinity Sunday, the Sunday when we celebrate the Trinity (logical right?).  Anyway, the Trinity is a complex concept that people have been talking about for thousands of years, and I am not going to try and jump into that, so take a listen and hear about how the Trinity can appear in our lives:

Adventures with Pentecost! (Sermon, May 15, 2016)

Hello Friends!

Sorry for the late posting, the week kind of ran away from me!  This past Sunday was the celebration of Pentecost, the day when, for Christians, the Holy Spirit descends upon the disciples to help them figure out how to continue Jesus’ mission in the world in his absence.  How do we do that?  Take a listen:

Adventures with Praying! (sermon May 8, 2016)

Hello Friends,

This past Sunday was the last Sunday in Easter and next week we hop into Pentecost.  Interestingly enough, the Gospel selection for the last Sunday in Easter is from the night before Jesus is arrested, at the Last Supper.  The lectionary jumps around a lot, which could be confusing sometimes, but there is a good reason why.  Take a listen:

Adventures with the System! (Sermon, May 1, 2016)

Hello Friends!

I’m back, and getting into the swing of things.  This week, there was a choice of readings, and I chose to preach about John 5:1-9, the healing of the man at the pool of Beth-zatha.  Yes, Jesus heals the man, but that isn’t really what the story is about, so check it out!

PS- The photo on the video is a photo I took of the Asclepieion in Bergama, Turkey that I reference in the sermon!

Adventures with St. Mark! (Sermon, April 24, 2016)

Hello Friends!

This week we take a break from the regular lectionary to transfer the feast day of St. Mark from April 25th to April 24th.  Of course that means that this Sunday I was at St. Mark’s in Islip and not at Emmanuel, Great River.  So, take a listen and learn a little bit about St. Mark!

Adventures on Vacation!

Hello Friends!

You may have noticed that I did not post a sermon for April 10th, that is because I am on vacation!  My next sermon will be April 24th.  We took a trip to Montreal and went to the fabulous Biodome (I highly recommend it).  So, here are some pictures of animals we saw there, to tide you over until the next sermon.
